Monday 14th December 2020   St John of the Cross, Poet, Teacher, 1591

Dear Parishioner,

I write to wish you a very happy, blessed, and peaceful Christmas, and God’s Blessing for 2021.

You don’t need me to point out that this has been a disrupted year, given COVID. For some of you, it might well have been a year that you would like to forget.

Those of you who cannot come to Church are very much in our minds, and thoughts and prayers.

Any of us might have had, or still have, problems that are unrelated to COVID. However, now is a time to celebrate that God became in Jesus a human being, to show us what God is like (self-giving Love), supremely seen in His Love for us on the Cross, leading to the new life of the Resurrection.

As I type, it is a mixed day of weather. The sun is peaking through, reminding us that Spring is not too far away.

To me, given all that has happened in the past few months, it is very important that we join together to celebrate this wonderful Season in as traditional a way as possible. At our Services, I am sorry to say that we are not allowed to have Carol Singing, but there will be Carols to listen to on disc, along with the traditional Readings and prayers. There will be the beauty of the Church to enjoy, with the Flower Guild’s wonderful decorations, and the exuberance of the Christmas Trees in our Display. The Church bell will ring out  again, and we can look at (in the day-light) the newly restored stone-work of the Spire.

I sense that that there is a great desire to worship in our village Church, and we have made arrangements so that, given COVID, all can come along.

The Services are:

Sunday    20th   6.00 p.m. Nine Lessons and Carols

Thursday 24th   Christmas Eve

                           4.00 p.m. Crib Service

                          11.00 p.m. Carols, then 11.30 p.m. Midnight Mass

Friday 25th        CHRISTMAS DAY 8.00 a.m./10.00 a.m.

Do invite others to come along!

I can’t help but end with this Seasonal, and in  terms of 2020 topical, joke, which you might know already:

“Why couldn’t Mary and Joseph join their work conference call? Because there was no Zoom at the inn.”

As ever, do please contact me at any time, whether to say a prayer with me, to discuss a serious matter, or just to have a chat, especially if at Christmas you are feeling worried or lonely.

With my good wishes and prayers,

 Fr William.
